What happens when you swallow a battery?

If you or a child has swallowed a battery, immediately head to the nearest emergency room and bring the battery packaging or device if possible.

Take these measures into account:

• Stay calm, but act quickly. Unless the battery is lodged into the esophagus, severe and/or life-theatening effects are less common
• Avoid eating or drinking unless a medical professional has directed otherwise
• Do not force vomiting yourself
